Light shone on Stanley Bridge's early history

DSC_0025 (3)DSC_0024DSC_0020 (1)DSC_0016 (1)Over the span of more than two centuries Stanley Bridge boasted nine shipyards, as many as five churches, a thriving cheese factory, three room schoolhouses, fox ranches, hockey rinks and men’s and women’s teams and, more recently, a population of a thousand, several times more than the current population. These and other fascinating tidbets of information were presented earlier this evening to a sizable audience at the Stanley Bridge Centre by local historian Helen MacEwen, with the Stanley Bridge Historical Society. She brought dozens of framed photos, documents, books and even an 1885 telephone to her presentation. Tonight’s session was the fourth history circle, with more slated for the near future.
